Colombo, Dec. 8 (Daily Mirror) - Approximately 12,000 kilograms of meat stored at a livestock farm in the Anuradhapura District was sealed after authorities found it unfit for human consumption, the Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Union said.
The stock is believed to have deteriorated due to floodwaters entering the facility and a power outage that disrupted refrigeration.
The issue came to light following a complaint lodged with the Disaster Management Hotline (1926), operated under the Health and Media Ministry.
A team of Public Health Inspectors subsequently inspected the premises and sealed the entire stock of meat, PHI Union Chairman Pradeep Boralessa confirmed.
Legal action will be taken against the owner after samples of the seized meat are sent to the Government Analyst for further testing.
