Landslide warnings issued for four districts amid ongoing rainfall

Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror) - The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings for four districts due to ongoing heavy rainfall, Senior Geologist Dr. Wasantha Senadeera said.

Addressing the media, Dr. Senadeera stated that Stage 02 landslide warnings have been issued for the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ududumbara in Kandy District, Wilgamuwa in Matale District, and Walapane in Nuwara Eliya District.

In addition, Stage 01 warnings have been issued for several other areas, including Hali Ela, Badulla, Passara, Lunugal, and Welimada Divisional Secretariats in Badulla District; Doluwa Divisional Secretariat in Kandy District; Ambanganga Korale Divisional Secretariat in Matale District; and Mathurata, Nildandahena, and Haguranketha Divisional Secretariats in Nuwara Eliya District.

Dr. Senadeera also noted that the heavy rainfall received last month has caused early signs of landslides to appear in many areas, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
