Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out from the remaining matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup following a quadricep injury.

Dushmantha Chameera is will replace him, with the ICC's Event Technical Committee approving the change.

Kumara, the hero of Sri Lanka’s eight-wicket win over England, had complained of a pain during Saturday’s training session and a scan has confirmed of a tear.

He picked up 3-35 against England and was named man-of-the-match for his brilliant spell of seam bowling.

What? Can this player play more than one game at a time? This is too frequent.

Next time pls send a patient bed as well with the team at the rate everyone is getting injured will need the same. Guess our physico and the coaches must be plucking coconuts in India !!!! We send patients for world cup ya

Not only our economy but the team too is ailing. For this much of players to be injured, supporting teams performance to be questioned.

There is surely something wrong with the SL team training routine for so many injuries to occur within such a short period of time

He took 3 wickets but never consistent. Chameera never fit for a series. None of our pacemen for that matter. Vas hardly got injured. He was there when needed. So was great murali. Most batsmen played when needed. Never were pruned to injury. Stop rice for these guys

    Don't be surprised Sunday, 29 October 2023 11:38 PM

Don't be surprised if Chameera limps off the field halfway through the innings.

Are these guys made out of cardboard??

All but one who went to India is not injured though he was injured and was in recluse when in Sri Lanka that is our evergreen Dharma iya. Every other one is getting injured like the captain who is also injured but how nobody knows as he was virtually doing nothing in the field

I thnk icc should change the worldcup squad number from to 18 or 20. This way this kind of adjustment will be not necessary.

L.Kumara is a walking wounded at the best of times (play 1, out injured next 3). What if he took up Rugby? Also, like Pathirana, what good is pace like fire if 95% of his deliveries are wayward and wild. His 3 wkts in last game were thanks to batsman fatigue and batsman error of judgement. Unlike Kumara, Chameera is a thinking bowler with accuracy.

Dushmantha strike bowler in his 1st match after Injury. It is a gamble.must win situation with afghan. To handle him three continuous overs with interval of 10 overs and two overs at a time to avoid any inhury at this match. The coach knows better than everybody

Side effects Sunday, 29 October 2023 08:01 PM

Is it the side effect of having to stand in queues a year ago.

    Rizvi Sunday, 29 October 2023 09:03 PM

This is exactly what Jayasooriya was talking about, having concerns on the fitness levels of the players. Chameera too an injury prone player, wont be surprised to see him on Laiya’s shoes after a match.

    Sahithya Monday, 30 October 2023 07:26 AM

Morale and health are intertwined. The team’s lack of match fitness is predictable.

SL guys, all of you- sportsmen and women, farmers, loggers, laborers, office workers; stop eating belly-full of rice three times a day. It is never going to help you. It will only make you suitable to be a pot belly public servant warming chairs waiting for the next bribe. Not certainly for a fast bowler.

Look at Shami and Co. Starc and Co. They don't know the meaning of Injury. Sin, these fellows should have picked playing marbles instead of cricklet.

    Man Monday, 30 October 2023 11:13 AM

Let's wish that he will be fit along with all the other fast bowlers for the test series against Afganistan (one off), Bangaladesh and England.
