LPBOA proposes NTC establish tourist information unit

The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) had made a proposal to the National Transport Commission (NTC) to establish a tourist information unit at the Bastian Mawatha Bus Station in Colombo with a rest room.

LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said that the association is planning to arrange a transport service which the tourists would prefer to use.

Tourists can choose between the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and private bus or trains for their tourism needs, according to Wijerathne.

He requested to establish a rest room with comfortable facilities at the Bastian Mawatha Bus Station for tourists to have at least one or two hours of rest.

"The tourists will get the current ordinary bus fares for their travelling purposes." "Tourists can select the types of buses and/or trains as they wish, but with no additional charges will be levied from them other than the cost for travelling," he said.

"The online service will be promoted by the Tourism Ministry and the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB). "We should take immediate action to promote our tourism industry around the world in the hope of bringing dollars into the country," he said.

"I have informed the President about this and he appreciated the effort and told me that he would inform Tourism and Lands Minister Harin Fernando to act according to the proposal by the LPBOA," Wijerathne added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
