Kite flying near airports strictly prohibited

Colombo, July 6 (Daily Mirror) - Authorities have reminded the public that flying kites or any other airborne devices above 300 feet within a five-kilometer radius of Sri Lanka's international airports is strictly prohibited due to the serious risks posed to aviation safety and public security.

In a notice issued by Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited, officials warned that such activities could interfere with aircraft operations and endanger the lives of passengers, crew members, and individuals on the ground.

The notice highlighted that kites, drones, and other airborne objects flown within restricted zones around international airports can pose a significant threat to life and property, potentially disrupting safe air travel operations.

Authorities further cautioned that individuals who engage in such activities without proper authorization or due consideration may face severe legal consequences under existing laws and regulations governing aviation safety.

The public has been urged to comply with the restrictions and refrain from flying kites, drones, or similar objects within designated restricted areas surrounding international airports to ensure the continued safety and security of air transportation operations in Sri Lanka.
