Police and the Road Development Authority have distributed notices regarding the removal of the Kibulawala street food stalls within 14 days, the president of the association said.

He said several rounds of discussions were held with several officials, including the Urban Development and Housing Minister and Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga.

During the discussions, the officials promised to provide a space in another location, but no clear message has been passed, the president said.

The notice was issued on Tuesday (21) and told to remove the stalls on or before September 4, according to the National Roads Act.

Therefore, the association requested that the government regulate their businesses and allow them to continue.

On inquiring about the incident with the Thalangama police, they said that they were unaware of the incident and were not involved in issuing the notice.

The Road Development Authority (RDA) Chairman said that he was not informed in this regard, but several pieces of information were received that the road used blocked traffic following the setting up of food stalls in an inappropriate manner.

Simple solution- if the stalls are blocking the road reservation. And customers obstructing the traffic. Keep some traffic cops and fine everyone who parks blocking the road at least 2500/- do it for a few days and the shops will disappear.

About bloody time. I'm all for the street food culture as long as it doesn't inconvenience anyone. This is a real mennace that causes bumper to bumper traffic for miles every evening. It's a real mennace that has to be shifted elsewhere.

for 10 , 20 votes the politicians will sell their look at the vendors opposite the pettah station and surroundings one cannot walk their are all types of vendors on both sides of one pavement we have to walk sideways like crabs to get through the authorities are blind including the police the politicians should be made to walk from the customs building to MD Gunasena in the burning sun

I live in the area. These vendors are a menace. They do know nothing about hygiene and food contamination. They create a hazardous and dangerous conditions for pedestrians and motorists. Their customers often park on the other side of the road and jay walk across the road. The food is very expensive and lacks taste as one fill find after their purchase. The scraps they throw away have attracted dogs for now and maybe crocodiles in the near future.

It was one of the beautiful area reserved for people to relax and walk now run by vendors and thugs. Govt has spent millons for the beautification of the area and now has become properties of only few vendors and thugs. Pl give them alternative location .
