Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Japanese government has granted a stock of high-tech scanners, valued at 8.4 million US dollars, to the Katunayake International Airport and the Colombo Port.

In a grant from the Japanese government, a supply of scanners has been provided to monitor health issues, such as epidemics and contagious diseases harmful to public health that could be spread by foreigners in the country.

The first batch of equipment under the grant aid was handed over to Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva by the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mizukoshi Hideaki, at the Katunayake International Airport yesterday.

The project is being implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). In addition to disease-detecting scanners, baggage scanners, full-body scanners, foreign passport scanners and a biometric access control system have been provided under the project.

Further, the project includes the installation of a smart toilet system consisting of 150 units at the Katunayake International Airport.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Mishukoshi Hideaki said that Japan will continue to provide unwavering commitment and support for the economic progress and development of Sri Lanka. He emphasised the long-standing friendship between the two countries and said that the grant was an opportunity to strengthen such bilateral ties.

The aid must be used under Japanese supervision. Sometime back it was Japanese ambassador who complained about the Minister who was saved by a Commission appointed by RW

CHINA NEEDS TO BE KEPT AT ARMS LENGTH. THEY ARE ONLY AFTER SRI LANKA TO PREPARE FOR THEIR WAR WITH TAIWAN IN VARIOUS WAYS. TIME OUR POLITICIANS OPENED THEIR GOD GIVEN EYES Thursday, 11 April 2024 01:56 PM

EXCELLENT. HONEST COUNTRY TO WORK WITH, NO BRIBES PAID OUT LIKE CHINA AND THE CHINESE CONTRACTING COMPANIES. THEY COME IN WITH OWN LABOUR, OWN MACHINERY, OWN BUILDING MATERIAL AND END RESULT MAJORITY OF THE MONEY STAYS IN CHINA.

What a “classy” race of people the Japanese are. Just think of the generosity of spirit to do all the good they do even when they have to deal with scum like Nimal Siripala. There can never be enough superlatives to describe the Japanese people.

Very generous of Japan. However, like other gifts from Japan in the past, this also will be collecting dust in some corner if this gift is mismanaged.

They provide supply and service and not a grant itself I believe. They knows grants will not work well with the projects...

If the gifts are given in kind then it will rot in some place as so many gifts are rotting in places. Suba Aluth Avurudak Mr. NS.
