JVP member electrocuted
Former JVP member of the Central Provincial Council, Michael Ecculas De Silva (66) was electrocuted when he trampled on a live wire laid by him to protect a cultivated land.
He was a resident of the Shanthipura area in Nuwara Eliya who had tendered nominations to contest the Local government election for the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha as leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya group. He had been the Principal of a government school before he took to politics. He had been living alone in the house after he separated from his wife and his son had gone abroad.
Investigations revealed that the live wire that resulted in the accident had been connected directly to the main switch. Police who rushed to the scene on information from an employee of the farm, recovered the body.
.Police said the body of the former Provincial Council member was recovered on Saturday evening (02).
Nuwara Eliya Acting Magistrate Jayamini Ambagahawatta who visited the scene and held the preliminary magesterial inquiry last morning ordered police to refer the body to the JMO Nuwara Eliya general hospital for postmortem examinations.
