Gampaha, August 12 (Daily Mirror) - A special program to brief District Secretaries and District and Divisional Productivity Development Officers on the National Program to Develop 1,000 Young Entrepreneurs was held recently at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLPI) under the patronage of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunnetti.
The initiative, jointly implemented by the Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Ministry and the National Productivity Secretariat, aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector by enhancing entrepreneurs’ knowledge, skills, productivity, and export capacity.
Initially launched as a pilot project in the Gampaha District, where 100 entrepreneurs were successfully developed, the program has now been extended across the country following its success. The first phase will be implemented in 17 districts this year, with the remaining eight districts scheduled for mid-next year. Participants will receive advisory support, training, and essential resources to ensure sustainable business growth, contributing to economic development, job creation, and higher export earnings.
During the event, officials were also updated on the SME Development Framework, District Committees for Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, District Export Development Programs, the National Productivity Awards Competition, and the Community Productivity Program.
