International kingpin ’’Paravi Suda’’ linked to recent heroin haul

Colombo, March 18 (Daily Mirror) - Investigations into the recent seizure of over 123kg of heroin in international waters south of Sri Lanka have uncovered a direct link to the notorious overseas-based drug trafficker and organised criminal, "Paravi Suda."

The multi-day fishing trawler, carrying a narcotics consignment valued at over Rs. 3 billion was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy during a special operation.

The vessel and its five-member crew were brought to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour on Monday and subsequently handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for further processing.

Intelligence sources revealed that this is not an isolated incident. "Paravi Suda" is also suspected of orchestrating a separate, massive smuggling attempt intercepted just last week.

That operation resulted in the seizure of over 600kg of narcotics (Heroin and Crystal Meth/Ice), 11 sophisticated firearms, including T-56 assault rifles and M-16s.

Investigating agencies suspect that "Paravi Suda" is operating in coordination with other high-profile fugitives, namely Dippitigoda Lahiru and Konda Ranji, who are also believed to be hiding abroad.

It was suspected that the smuggled firearms were intended for more than just protection.

Police believe the weapons were brought into the country to be leased to local criminal gangs on a contract basis to carry out organised crimes and targeted killings.
