Parliament, Nov. 30 (Daily Mirror)-Steps will be taken to reopen the 40 hospitals that were shut down due to medical shortages by assigning intern doctors, Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana said today.

The Minister told Parliament that special attention will be drawn to the matter when making internship appointments.

He said this in response to a question raised by former President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the particular hospitals.

Allow Sri Lankan graduate doctors, who now have foreign citizenship, to come and register and work without obtaining dual nationality. After all, there are members of parliament who have no dual nationality, contested and sitting in our parliament.

Approximately 60 percent of the patients have mild complaints and interns are a good option. In the good old days the Apothecaries examined and treated patients and I always go to them. The present population choose the most expensive doctor for prestige.

Always assess a Doctor on his track record. A common myth is going by the highest consulting fee. Higher the fee better the doctor.

A couple of months ago around 8 students were deprived of internship as SLMC claimed they have taken a break in SL during covid. Around Rs.4 Million was paid a well known Attorney suggested by SLMC to merely put forward a court solution. Even worse subsequent to such solution further 8 scholars were unreasonably refused internship even though they continued to stay and perform in Russia and had to pay Rs.1.6 Million for a mere submission by a another leading Attorney as suggested by SLMC. Isn;t it funny now you are stating no sufficient Doctors?. Why were such large sums demanded when ethicket of SC suggest reasonable fees for performance. Did the spoil was shared with persons ?.
