Yatiyantota, April 28 (Daily Mirror)- Steps would be taken to increase the interest rate of the Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) from the existing 9 percent to 13 percent with effect from 2023, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

He told reporters in Yatiyantota that the EPF is the largest fund in the country with 2.7 million members.

The interest paid to the EPF was reduced from 13 percent to 9 percent under the domestic debt restructuring process.

Obviously using the reserves they managed to accumulate these past months. Instead of paying off the debts, they can increasing the EPF interest. This will definitely change the mindsets of citizens who feel this government doesn’t care. Hope it’s maintained and also enlighten those who feel the current regime is the only choice SL has and other parties are unreliable.

EPF is invested in treasury bills. If TB is 10 % how can EPF pay 13%. All political stunts to win elections. Send these scum bags home

    Tom Monday, 29 April 2024 11:26 AM

The increase is based on profits from last year's investments

Sudden kindness of yours is well known to the public as the election is getting nearer and nearer. You have reduced the interest rates drastically against the deposit of senior citizens and put them in to very difficult economic situation where they are struggling to buy their day today needs. Let the election comes for us to give you all a fitting reply which will eventually end your political career.
