Income tax filing deadline set for November 30

Colombo, Nov. 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Inland Revenue Department has announced that all individuals registered for Income Tax are required to submit their Income Tax Returns for the Year of Assessment 2024/2025 online on or before November 30, 2025.

The Department warned that failure to file returns by the due date will result in legal action being taken against defaulters under the Inland Revenue Act, No. 24 of 2017.

For further details, taxpayers can contact the Department by calling 1944, visiting www.ird.gov.lk, or reaching out to the nearest regional office of the Inland Revenue Department.

Tax avoidance is legal as the law allows it. Tax avoidance means , reducing taxes using all allowances provided in tax laws.

I live abroad and non resident for years. I have some old bank accounts with small deposits in Sri Lanka, recently I received a paying slip with TIN. I requested tge PIN number to update my profile, the IRD website says thst one shoukd make a request through the website and then send an email with the request id and national id copy . I have tried sending this 10 times so far, the message is undeliverable because the mail box is full. That shows how ineffective and inefficient the IRD is .

Please don't visit the Maharagama and Jawatta offices. You will not get the required services as the staff prefer idling and not serve the public. The designated staff' subject knowledge is nil. They misguide you causing immense inconvenience and cost. In the contrary the head office has an excellent team of trainees who provide with the best of courteous srvice with dedication.
