President Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that he would get the approval and assistance of Parliament to implement the IMF agreement although it is not required by law.
Speaking to Editors of media organizations, Wickremesinghe said that the IMF agreement was a restructuring of the economy and not only of the country's debt and the future of Sri Lanka rests with whether the country will implement this agreement or not.

IMHO: the broader the spectrum of the influential SL politiciansis presented, the more independent impression is from the mass media. Though SL president has sufficient powers to govern all the country effectively and ultimately in the interests of the nation.

(b) "... although it is not required by law", it is an error of the advisors to the president. Article 84 of the constitution provides the cases, when the bill is inconsistent with the Constitution. It is easier to find, which act of the former president Rajapksa had been inconsistent, if not all, with the constitution, than to find his legal decision during his 2_years term. IMF is the association of governmnets. Any monetory agreemenet, concluded by the representative of the governmnet of SL and IMF is governed by article 157 of the Constitution. The same related to the agreement between the government of Sri Lanka and any other country. So, you guessed, that all agreements on import of the military equipment and military ammuniation, concluded between SL and Russia, for example, fall outside this law.

Obviously , as the 133 MPs will vote even to set the country on fire, for their own survival . Because , this is the last hurrah for them and Ranil before they all are reduced to specs of dust in their political career s.
Referendum is what is needed Friday, 24 March 2023 09:46 PM
Parliament is has government control. It's vote is just waste of time. If public permission was got by way of referendum then country is bound for it. Now without public acceptance, future government should be able to withdraw from the draconian rules of IMF. Future government can even put up Referendum to remove our linking to IMF loan repayments.
