KATUNAYAKA (Daily Mirror) - Darshani, a Sri Lankan maid who returned from Saudi Arabia said she was forced to swallow screw nails with water by her employer which resulted in her being hospitalized.
Making an emotional statement at the Katunayake airport upon her arrival, the housemaid said she was continuously abused and assaulted by her employer. The victim, a resident of Mathugama is a mother of three children.
Coming to her rescue, Marimuthu Nilantha Kumara, the husband of the victim, who earns a living as a coconut plucker in the vicinity, came to Katunayake airport to receive Darshani.
The housemaid also said that when she had complained to the recruitment agency in Sri Lanka, the agency had verbally abused her.
“I slipped and fell after stepping on shampoo in a bathroom, causing injury to my back and head. Then, the woman of the house physically assaulted me and locked me in a room,” she said.
Furthermore, the victim revealed that she was forcibly taken to a washing machine room where she was confined and subjected to further abuse.

It is sad that my fellow citizens to undergo all these brutalities to earn foreign exchange which subsequently gets consumed by the rich and the powerful to be consumed for luxuries which these citizens could not even imagine. Where is the buddhism and the socialism? As for the people of the Middle East, not much could be expected from them is spite of their supreme beliefs. They were slave traders riding camels, not too long ago in history.

I can’t believe this persons account. If she had swallowed screws, it would have been shown on hospital x- rays. She would have later passed it on in her stools. Sri Lankan embassy should contact the hospital whether her account is true. She appears to be taking everyone for a ride with her cock and bull story.

Do not send your wifes or sisters as maids to ME countries. There are enough jobs in Sri Lanka and can earn 30-40k per month with food and lodging provided. Extra money can be earned if you can make prepare some food ( hoppers , string hoppers , roti) and distribute to shops or can do some sewing at home.... think out of the box ....

Wonder what the labour minister Manusha got to say about this. He must take action on this follow up with an investigation. Do not cover up! Poor people too are humans minister.

I don't believe this story to be honest, swallowing nails is very dangerous and I don't think she will be in this condition if she did. Swallowing nails is dangerous when done in a controlled way, so when you are forced to swallow them it should almost certainly end up in the hospital.

Pick Tea leaves or Tap Rubber trees in Sri Lanka. Or do manual labour work in Sri Lanka. Females should never go to other countries as Domestic servants.
