Parliament (Daily Mirror)- The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) received an additional income of Rs. 16 billion last month as hydropower generation took place at full capacity due to heavy rains, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said yesterday.
He told Parliament that a similar amount of income or something more than that was expected this month also as reservoirs have reached full capacity and hydropower is generated at full capacity.
The Minister said the additional income would be used if a drought situation prevails in December, January and February as predicted.
However, he said the CEB had incurred an overall loss of Rs. 12 billion in the first ten months of this year.
The Minister said steps would be taken to do a tariff revision and provide relief to the people if there was an additional income after finalising the balance sheet ending on
December 31.
“After finalising the balance sheet on December 31, I will take steps to inform the cabinet and do a price revision if there was an additional income,” he said.

The usual hi-fi critics and pig headed trade unions, simply want rates to decrease as their slogans. CEB was loss making due to low income. A loss has to be set off first from income gain is a standard accounting practice. This young man is correct. He's going with right policy direction in decision making to make CEB stable and sustainable. Cheers and blessings to you Kanchana

Thanks to El nino. We can't expect this sort of rain every year. Hope we get the wind power plants being constructed in Mannar into action in 2024.

What are the plans taken to seal the leakage of Samanalawewa, in March, 2024 or so, if no desire for commissions? Have you started?
