Colombo, Feb. 14 (Daily Mirror) - A man strangled his wife to death and set their house on fire yesterday morning.

The deceased, 40-year-old Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Damayanthi Ekanayake, was a resident of Medagama in Parasangaswewa.

Police stated that the suspect had previously been remanded for 14 days following a complaint made by his wife over a family dispute. He was released on bail yesterday. An altercation between the couple shortly after his return resulted in the killing and the arson attack.

A police team, led by Parasangaswewa OIC SI Rohana Wijesuriya, is conducting further investigations to arrest the absconding suspect.

It is a horrendous murder . The Sri Lankan Police common tradition of making SIs as OICs in small village Police Stations must end. All OICs must be at least experienced full Inspectors , ideally young university graduate ASPs.

Our Police is of poor quality. They are unable to make a simple assessment on a domestic fight and understand the escalation levels and methods, rules and enforcements that need to be implemented to safe guard the situation until a neutral situation happens. These are monkeys in uniform.
