Housing aid programme planned for low-income families with unfinished homes

Colombo, July 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Government is planning a housing assistance programme to help low-income families complete partially constructed houses, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

The President gave instructions to officials to implement the programme while reviewing housing sector projects and budget requirements for 2027 at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (08).

The initiative is expected to support families who have been unable to complete construction due to financial difficulties.

The meeting also examined progress under the Government’s housing development programme, ‘A Place of Our Own, A Beautiful Life’, and discussed future allocations needed for its continuation.

The President highlighted the importance of ensuring that housing programmes deliver practical benefits to vulnerable communities and instructed officials to streamline implementation.

The discussion also covered the national resettlement programme, with attention given to accelerating the resettlement of war-displaced people and improving housing facilities for affected families.
