Hot weather warning to Western and several other provinces

A caution level heat weather advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology today for the Western, Southern, Eastern and North-Central Provinces and in the Kurunegala, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.

The department also advises the public to remain hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible at job sites. They also advise checking on the elderly and the sick who are indoors and not to leave children unattended. 

Outdoor workers are advised to limit their strenuous activities, find shade and stay hydrated. 

The Department warns that fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and activity and continuing activity could result in heat cramps.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt by the human body. (Ajith Siriwardana)
