Colombo, Sep 15 (Daily Mirror) - The High Post Committee of Parliament has decided to summon Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne for an inquiry into legal cases pending against him.
The Committee is the parliamentary body that clears the government's appointments to key posts, such as Ambassadors and High Commissioners, Ministry Secretaries, and chairmen of statutory boards.
The appointments are usually advertised in newspapers, enabling anyone aggrieved to raise objections in terms of petitions.
An opposition MP familiar with the High Post Committee proceedings said that there are several ongoing court cases against Mr. Seneviratne, including for drunk driving.
"The Committee will inquire into the current status of these court cases as per the procedure," the source said.
The decision was taken at the meeting held last week. He is slated to be summoned before the committee on a day during the first parliamentary week of October.
