Heavy showers may occur this afternoon: Met. Dept.

Heavy showers could be experienced in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts during the afternoon, the Meteorology Department said this morning.

“The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by localized, temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers,” the Met. Dept. said in a media communiqué.
“Meanwhile, on its apparent northward relative motion, the sun will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka till April 15,” it said.

“The closest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (12) are Mankulam, Periyakulam, Kuratiyawa, Morawewa and Mahadiwulwewa at about 12:11 p.m.” (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
