Heavy showers forecast in several areas over next 36 hours

Colombo, June 13 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has issued the general weather forecast for the next 36 hours.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times over the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely at some locations within these areas.

Several spells of rain may also occur in the Mannar and Anuradhapura districts.

Strong winds of around 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Elsewhere in the island, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph may be experienced at times.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
