Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has forecast continued rainy and windy conditions across several parts of the country today (28), with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm expected in some areas.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers are also expected at a few places in Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North Central, North Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the Department said sea areas off the coasts from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times due to winds reaching 50–60 kmph.
Wave heights may increase to between 2.0 and 3.0 metres in sea areas from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Swell waves may also affect nearshore sea areas from Beruwala to Matara via Galle.
