Hatton–Colombo main road blocked after landslide

Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - A landslide has blocked a section of the Hatton-Colombo Main Road in the Diyagala area, following the severe weather conditions currently affecting the country.

Residents in the area say that another landslide has occurred after a previous earthslip in the Watawala area, which had taken place during Cyclone Ditwa, was recently cleared. They say the latest incident was triggered by heavy rains experienced in the Watawala area on the 10th.

Due to the landslide, traffic along the affected stretch of the road has been restricted to one lane, causing disruptions to vehicular movement.

The Executive Engineer of the Norwood Road Development Authority stated that immediate steps will be taken to remove the debris and restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions continue to prevail across several parts of the island, raising concerns over further landslide risks in vulnerable hill-country regions including areas around Hatton and Colombo routes.
