March 25 (Daily Mirror) - A pharmacy owner in Hatton was arrested on suspicion of selling intoxicating pills to youths without a valid medical prescription during a raid carried out by officers of the Hatton Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit yesterday (March 24).

Police said the raid was conducted following information received by Hatton Divisional SSP Pradeep Weerasekara that the suspect was allegedly targeting young people and selling the pills at high prices without prescriptions issued by specialist doctors.

Acting on the tip-off, officers of the Anti-Corruption Unit deployed a police informant and carried out a search at the pharmacy, during which nearly 1,400 intoxicating pills believed to have been kept ready for sale were seized.

The arrested suspect is a resident of the Hatton area and the owner of the pharmacy where the pills were found, police said.

Officers who conducted the raid stated that the suspect is due to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court, while further investigations are being carried out by the Hatton Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit.
