Govt keen to combat tax evasion: State Finance Minister

State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siambalapitiya emphasized the need for various measures, as suggested by the International Monetary Fund, including strengthening administration, implementing minor reductions in tax exemptions, and actively combatting tax evasion.

Dr. Siyambalapitiya highlighted the alarming fact that Sri Lanka had the lowest income in the world in relation to the gross domestic product last year.

"Although the government's income has increased by 50% this year compared to the previous year, it remains insufficient," he stressed.

Meanwhile, Ranjith Siambalapitiya, said plans are afoot to recruit 138 Assistant Customs Superintendents and 45 Customs Inspectors through an open competition, ensuring no political interference.
