Deraniyagala, Dec.2 (Daily Mirror) - The government is paying special attention to the welfare of pensioners' communities and solving their wage disparities, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siambalapitiya said while speaking to the media after starting work on the retirement welfare office building being built near Deraniyagala town.

Considering the importance of pensioners, the President advised to take steps to pay the increased Rs. 2,500 from this year's budget, starting next January.

Also, the government has paid close attention to the pensioners' wage disparities that have been existing for a long time. The government should recognise the pension disparity pointed out by the minister and find an answer to it, the minister said.

In developed countries, the pensions of former government workers are based on the salaries of active employees. They receive between 70 and 80% as a pension. Pensioners from the non-state sector receive a pension in an amount depending on how long they have worked and how much they have paid into the compulsory pension insurance. In many countries there is a minimum pension. The pensions are adjusted annually in line with the increase in salaries.

What about the seniors who dont get a pension but depend on the meagre monthly interest from their savings in FD??2500 rs will not last for a day given the cost of medicines!!

Mr.Minister opening welfare offices all over the country is also costly.rent to be paid staff management etc..Rs.2500 is not enough for a Pensioner.You have a proper meal with your family that day money is vanished.Increase to Rs.5000 atleast can pay his one of his small bill (At times Mr.Minister I appreciate your minute pieces of work and thinking but thinking should be put into practice)
