Government ready to increase salaries of public sector

COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - The promise made by the President to increase the salaries of public employees has been made a reality in a way that does not put pressure on the people, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siambalapitiya said.

He said that it is also a matter of pleasure to discuss raising the state employees' salaries in installments.

He said this while accepting a petition with 100,000 signatures demanding to increase the salaries of state employees before the budget proposal.

The Minister pointed out that the government is always aware of the hardships faced by government employees. The promise to increase the salary even before the presentation of the budget is an example of that, he said.

However, the government should be aware of how much money will be spent if the salaries of the 1.4 million public servants and 600,000 pensioners are increased by a minimum of Rs. 1,000 each, Minister Siyambalapitiya added.

Please increase the FD interest rates thereby giving some relief to the senior citizens! Their needs are being ignored! They are unable to work anymore and will become a burden to families and as well as to the society. It is the responsibility of the government to look into their grievances too.

Definitely FD interest rates of snr.citizen money to be increased min.15% honestly this category of people are desperate atleast to pay electricity and water bills. To be considered in the budget allocation
