Government planning to get IMF sixth tranche increased: President

Colombo, Dec. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The government has negotiated with the International Monitory Fund (IMF) to increase the amount of the sixth tranche which was due in December this month, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

He told Parliament that the IMF Executive Board is scheduled to approve the sixth tranche of USD 342 million by December 15, 2025.

The President said the government has requested the IMF to postpone the sixth tranche till February next year in order to get the tranche increased.

"We reached staff level agreement with the IMF on different circumstances. Now, the situation has changed with the disaster situation. We hope to increase the amount of the tranche now. We need time for that. We have agreed with the IMF to postpone the sixth tranche till February and finish the fifth review in January," he said.
