Gem worth Rs. 6 mn stolen in Kandy robbery caught on CCTV



Colombo, March 13 (Daily Mirror) - CCTV footage has captured a dramatic robbery at a gem testing and sales centre on E.L. Senanayake Street in Kandy, where a suspect allegedly sprayed liquid at the owner’s face before fleeing with gems valued at around Rs. 6 million.

Police said the incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. today (13). 

The suspect had reportedly entered the premises posing as a customer intending to purchase gems.

While speaking with the businessman, the suspect suddenly sprayed liquid at his face, leaving him momentarily helpless. The suspect then seized a box containing the gem stock and fled the scene.

The victim later lodged a complaint with the Kandy Police, following which the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) launched a special investigation to track down the suspect.
