The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued an extra ordinary gazette notification announcing that all details pertaining to the commercial goods and commodities must be displayed for the benefit of the consumers.
The gazette notification (2286/26) was issued yesterday by the chairman of the CAA, Shantha Niriella.
As per the gazette, the CAA directs all importers, producers, manufacturers, warehouse owners, distributors, packers, online traders. Also the traders who do not import, produce, manufacture, store, distribute, pack, repack, sell, or display for sale, expose for sale, or offer for sale unless the following details are legibly printed or affixed by non-removable label in a conspicuous place on the pack, wrapper, or container of the end product of the commercial goods purchased by the consumer at the retail price.
The details are as follows:
The maximum retail price, weight or volume, date of manufacture and the date of packing if re-packing, the date of expiry/best before use/active period (except for the goods which do not fall under expiry date category), the batch/code number, the name and registered address and contact number of the manufacturer; and in the event it is imported, the name, address, contact number or website of the supplier or importer.
