President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification directing the military to maintain public order in the country with effect from today.
According to the gazette, all the members of the armed forces including the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force were advised to maintain public order in all administrative districts and the territorial water adjacent to such districts.
The order was extended for a period of one month with effect from today.
After the Emergency Regulations were lifted, former President Maithripala Sirisena issued the initial Gazette and it has been extended every month in accordance with the powers vested with the president by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40).
Accordingly, the Army, Navy and the Air Force have been called out for the maintenance of public order in the administrative districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Jaffna, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee, Puttalam and the territorial water adjacent to such districts and the administrative districts of Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Monaragala, Ratnapura and Kegalle.
