Colombo, May 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Government Medical Officers' Forum (GMOF) has requested the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to carry out post-marketing surveillance to assess the quality of inhalation devices, which are largely imported from India.
Its president, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, said that post-marketing surveillance should be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of inhalation medicines, including bronchodilator combinations with steroids and standalone bronchodilators.
He also requested that an investigation be carried out to determine whether the dosage delivered through inhalers meets the required standards.
Over the past couple of years, several substandard medicinal products have been registered and imported into Sri Lanka.
However, it is now the responsibility of the NMRA to carry out vigilant post-marketing surveillance, particularly concerning inhalers used for asthma and other respiratory diseases, he said.
He raised this issue in response to complaints from doctors about the quality and safety of imported inhalation medicinal products.

Where was this GMOA when Keheliya was importing sub-par medicines. I can remember during yahapalanaya they were protesting even against the Singapore FTA. Better change the name to Rajapakse medical officers association (RMOA)
