Colombo, March 26 (Daily Mirror) - The officers of the Special Investigation Department of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) yesterday arrested a person who was defrauding money by using the names of high officials of the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry, claiming to be a doctor and was offering jobs in the agricultural sector in Israel.
The suspect, who is a resident of Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07, has claimed that he can provide foreign jobs through the higher officials of the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry, and he has also stated that he is a doctor.
In order to obtain money, he has invited people to the Foreign Employment Ministry and the Foreign Employment Bureau in Narahenpita.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect has defrauded Rs. 7,650,000 from nine persons, and he was arrested at the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry, based on a complaint made by a person who had given him money.
The suspect was produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court, and was ordered to be remanded till April 3.
The wife of the suspect who had assisted in this racket is ascending while further investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara requests the public not to pay any money to any person to obtain employment opportunities in the agricultural sector in Israel.
Sri Lankans are entitled to employment opportunities in the agricultural sector in Israel, according to a memorandum of understanding between the two countries, the Minister said.
