Colombo, July 07 (Daily Mirror) - Deshamanya Bradman Weerakoon, a veteran Sri Lankan civil servant, has passed away at the age of 94, family sources confirmed.

Weerakoon served under nine prime ministers and presidents during his career, becoming one of the most respected figures in the country’s public service

Imagine what a distinguished career diplomat like Mr. Weerakoon would have thought, had he witnessed a certain minister from the current administration speaking at the recently concluded World Economic Forum. Have we strayed so far from the days of dignified, articulate public servants? Will we ever again see government officials of Mr. Weerakoon’s calibre?

You will never get the calibre of Mr Bradman Weerakoon from the people who entered school after 1956 with the introduction of swabasha. Those who studied before had the mirror of the British education victorian model and mannerisms.There was unity among all races and respect for each other. The Bandaranaike family destroyed the nation in the selfish pursuit of their personal agendas
