Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 6.1 million in flood relief aid in 2014, the Police Media Spokesperson said.

Tsunami Help Hambantota funds misappropriated by MR were returned on Court Order but not the big interest earned by that time. This was due a favoured order for which Sarath Silva CJ apologised that he should also have given a punishment as well.

Let's hope justice will be served. The Rsjapakse rule between 2010 and 2015 was full of corruptions led by Rsjapakse. Maithreepala government came to power promising to investigate them, but nothing were done instead deals were made to protect the culprit. We thank NPP Government taking all possible actions to punish the culprits and to recover state funds following the legal procedures.

Our Police have the habit of arresting people and keep looking for evidence. We have seen many cases withdrawn later for lack of evidence. It is time for the relevant Executives to direct Police not to arrest unless ready with evidence to file charges.
