Former Akurana Divisional Secretary Mohammed Haneefa Mohammed Niyaz had been sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court today.

He was convicted for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 in 2013. (TFT)

What a pity, person committed a crime of 50,000 gets 5 years jail but all the big crooks who have swallowed the wealth of our nation can not be touched by law. why this double standard? all should be punished irrespective to their social status.

Had he worn a safron Robe he could have got away with just 5 days in Jail before being released on bail. Anyway its different strokes for different folks .
