Flood risk warning issued for Attanagalu Oya basin low-lying areas



Colombo, May 14 (Daily Mirror) - A considerable amount of rainfall has been recorded in most catchment areas of the Attanagalu Oya basin as of 6.00 a.m. today, the irrigation Department said.

They said the based on current rainfall conditions and rising river levels observed at hydrological stations in the Attanagalu Oya, officials warn that there is a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of the Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys over the next 48 hours.

Areas at risk include parts of the Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla , Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Katana, and Wattala Divisional Secretariat divisions.

Officials also caution that several roads passing through these low-lying regions may become inundated at certain locations.

Residents and motorists in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution. Disaster management authorities have been requested to take necessary precautionary measures in response to the developing situation.
