Five navy personnel who went missing during flood response confirmed dead

The Sri Lanka Navy has confirmed that the five naval personnel who went missing during a flood response mission in the Chalai Lagoon have died. The group included the Officer-in-Charge of the Chalai Naval Sub-unit attached to SLNS Wettalekeni.

The personnel went into the Chalai Lagoon on Friday to cut off water flowing toward the naval sub-unit as flood conditions worsened. Communication with the team was lost shortly after they entered the area, prompting an immediate search effort.

On Saturday, a special search team from the Northern Naval Command was deployed to intensify operations across both land and water.

Despite extensive search efforts, the Navy later confirmed that all five personnel had died during the mission.

Absolutely heartbreaking. They made the supreme sacrifice in their mission to rescue complete strangers. A selfless act. And so much love for others and the work they do. I hope this country does everything to provide for their families and ensure these heroes are never forgotten. May my Lord Jesus, the living God, comfort the families affected and grant these brave men eternal rest.

You are joking! Trying to say the cyclone, the floods and the death of the brave navy personal are the fault of the this government? Years of corruption, policical interference and poor planning defenitely lead to a worse disaster in certain areas of flooding, but what has the present government got to do with it? Instead, appreciate the relief efforts.
