Firearm owners urged to renew licences

Colombo, Jan. 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Defence has issued a special announcement urging all individuals and institutions holding firearm licences to ensure that their licences are renewed for 2026, as the renewal period ends tomorrow (31).

According to the Ministry, firearm owners who fail to renew their licences by the deadline will be required to pay a fine and complete the renewal process on or before February 10, 2026, in line with Section 22 of the Firearms Ordinance.

The Ministry further warned that legal action will be initiated against any firearm owner found in possession of a firearm without a valid licence after the deadline, as stipulated under Section 22 of the Firearms Ordinance.
