Fallen trees cause traffic standstill on Ella-Wellawaya road

A major traffic disruption has been reported on the Ella-Wellawaya main road today as a result of heavy rainfall and huge trees falling across the road.

According to the Badulla Disaster Management Centre, since approximately 7 p.m. torrential rains have uprooted several trees causing obstructions to the road at various locations.

The Ella police urge motorists to use alternate routes, as traffic queues have formed on both sides of the road.

They have also emphasized the risk of potential landslides in the area, urging caution and adherence to safety guidelines.

In response to the situation, the police have designated the Beragala-Wellawaya road as an alternate route, advising motorists to utilize this road until the main road is cleared and safe for travel.

Efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads and restore normal traffic flow.
