The Education Ministry thwarted a racket in which a group of people were allegedly collecting money through Facebook, claiming that it was for petitions filed before the court on the shortage of teachers.
Sources close to the Education Ministry said that in order to frustrate the steps taken to solve the shortage of graduate teachers in government schools, the graduate development officers are being conspired to raise money for the petitions filed before the Supreme Court.
In 2018, the Ministry took steps to appoint 4,700 principals based on the settlement given by the Supreme Court.
It has also been reported that a group of people are working with the aim of delaying appointments by filing cases again and thereby collecting money.
However, the Education Ministry has taken steps to complain to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the incident. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
