The nominations of five individuals, including Dacshitha Sumathipala (President, Anuradhapura Football League), who was vying for the President position in the Football Sri Lanka (FSL) 2023-2027 election, faced rejection by a three-member election committee today (29).
The three-member nomination committee is composed of Justice Dr. UL Abdul Majeed (Chairman), Justice Bandula K. Atapattu, and Maj. Gen. Upali Gunasekara. Notably, all the declined nominations were of the Sumathipala faction. Accordingly, T.I. Uduwara (Wattala League), who sought the FSL Vice President role, alongside N.S.B. Dissanayaka (Sri Lanka Schools), U. Nihal Perera (Wattala League), and P.K.H.M. Ariyanatha (Deniyaya League), who nominated themselves for the Executive Committee, have all faced rejection.
The nomination of any candidate from the Umar Jasver faction, who is a rival contender for the presidential post against Sumathipala, remains unaffected. The elections are scheduled for September 29. (Susil Premalal)

In Sri Lanka, more than the sport itself, gettin into the sports administration bodies has become the objective for a vast majority of people. Once elected they start looting all the money available for the development of that sport.

Hats off to Roshan Ranasinghe for limiting the term of office only to two four year periods ,if it is in effect now. Sumathipala party rejection raises the doubt newcomers are prevented in challenging the existing crooks.

Another Sumathipala vying for administrative positions in a sporting body? Please it's an absolute "No".
