Without branding people as 'Kasippukaraya' and 'Ganja Karaya', we can receive more dollars into the country by exporting illicit liquor (moonshine) and cannabis (Ganja) to other countries in good quality, Tourism State Minister Diana Gamage said.
Addressing the media, she said that due to the increase in liquor prices, people have begun distilling illicit liquor (moonshine) in their homes, and it has increased by up to 500 percent.
Therefore, it is required to reduce the liquor prices to stop the trend of home distilling of illicit liquor, she said.
"The minds of people have been brainwashed, and the people who use illicit liquor and cannabis (Ganja) are branded as 'Kasippukarayas and Ganja Karayas'. People do not understand the value of illicit liquor and cannabis. Illicit liquor in Sri Lanka is similar to 'Vodka' in Russia and 'Sake' in Japan," the state minister said.
"The moonshine distillation is done by using pure fruits. If we do this on a large scale as a quality product, we can export it to other countries. From there, we can get dollars where we cannot imagine," she said.
I will definitely raise this in parliament as a proposal. Usually, I bring these kinds of proposals to parliament, she said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Is she trying to gain publicity by making controversial statements? Doesn't she have any ideas other than on things considered as vices (liquor, casino, etc.)?
Rip Winkle Wednesday, 27 September 2023 09:30 PM
This lady occasionally comes up with excellent although controversial ideas. Problem is her poor standing in the eyes of the moderate people of this land because of her thuggish attitude. During the days of the prohibition in the US, moonshine was highly sought after but at the same time the brewers of this illicit liquors were hounded by the authorities. Today, many of them are legally distilling and exporting their once banned products.

At least the woman is trying to think outside the square. Can't “knock” her for that. But, no doubt, all the “culture” bound dimwits will.

WESTERN COUNTRIES DON'T DRINK TEA, THEY DRINK COFFE FROM SOUTH AMERICA. WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR KASIPPU?
ChildOfGod Wednesday, 27 September 2023 10:09 PM
What class of people around the WORLD do you think will consume illicit Kassipp??. As for SMART makes you look stupid. FIRST come up with suggestions on how the government is going to make it possible so the MASSES can put FOOD on their tables and support their families.
JuniorCitizen Thursday, 28 September 2023 12:15 AM
and how do you expect the government to do that? by printing more money? In countries like Canada you can openly buy weed on Uber and and in the UK you can purchase cannabis vapes, dont see our lankans calling them ganjakarayas? Colombo as a city has been trying to compete with the likes of Singapore and Dubai for years now but is there anything to do in this city after 12 midnight? Need to make a 24hr economy atleast in Colombo, or forever sit and weep.

We should legalize cannabis to reduce the inferior often laced with chemicals crap that come from India, cannabis has many medical benefits, kassipu if done right with quality can be a good source of income or coconut vodka, if kassipu and ganja were legalized even for locals it would create jobs and incomes for families in areas that have low to no work opportunities, legalising ganja could allow poor families to grow plants and sell to tourists or locals, but this would be difficult because most of the wine stores in the country are owned by politicians or their friends, so ofcourse they would deny approval so you buy their products, even now many places make kassipu from chemical tablets because its easier and cheaper to make, legalizing kassipu would help poor people enjoy themselves and / or make money without spending ridiculous amounts on alcohol from wine stores, people's ability to create businesses are hindered by politicians monopolising on every sector, greed is the enemy

Sri Lanka can produce a wide variety of tropical fruits, spices, vegetables, dairy products and export them to Europe and Asia. There is a huge Sri Lankan community in Australia, Japan, Korea, Europe and many other countries. The government needs to have a proper program for this. Exporting kasippu and ganja will not solve them problem.

Anything is ok. However how does she plan to keep quality standards? Other countries do this too. However they maintain high standards.

Dayana Gamage always comes out with reality, exporting illicit liquor is a fine idea. Even whisky was approved, after testing illicit brews.

Kasippu Mudalali Thursday, 28 September 2023 11:54 AM
As long as you don't need to divulge the secret ingredients that go into the preparation of Kasippu I am sure there will be quite a big demand for the brew all over the world like the world famous Ceylon Tea.. My former neighbour who was a Kasippu Mudalali also did a pee into the clay pot buried in the ground after a drink recycling the concoction so that nothing goes waste
Ron hardy Thursday, 28 September 2023 01:01 PM
Make good genuine kasippu leagal so that majority poor and middle-class can enjoy a drink or two and ganja also a the same some who wants to enjoy specialy the non drinkers why not its better than taking all kind of chemically made stuff the two catogorys have long history they all worked for the earnings not like the chemical fellows

This illegal citizen urgently needs a Brain Scan. Probably seeking publicity to detract from her citizenship court cases, with false documents. Such a person is also in the Parliament as a MP. Wonder of Asia.

The refined society is talking about technology, AI, semiconductors etc etc. Nvidia is progressing well on technology developing semiconductors to assist AI. Open AI has created the platform for the youth to showcase their talent for the good of humanity. Their progress is unimaginable. This whore is talking about kasippu and ganja. Judge the mentality and her meanness. Will my motherland ever progress with these whores and butterflies.
