Excise officer arrested for allegedly soliciting Rs. 2 million bribe
Colombo, Dec. 11 (Daily Mirror) - An Excise Sergeant attached to the Narcotics Bureau of the Excise Department was arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 2 million.
According to CIABOC, the officer had inspected a local pharmaceutical manufacturing facility where cannabis was allegedly being illegally ground using machinery.
He is accused of demanding the bribe in exchange for refraining from initiating legal action regarding the illegal activity.
The suspect is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court.
