Engine drivers call off train strike

The train strike launched by the engine drivers attached to the powerset train running shed in Maradana was called off a short while ago.

The union had taken the decision following a discussion held with the Railways General Manager (GMR).

An official from the union said the GMR came to an agreement with the demands of the union.

A total of 26 train services, including office trains, were cancelled today due to the strike.

Even though the strike has been called off, there would be a delay in train operations, which would be restored by tomorrow morning, the official said.

Railway employees commenced the trade union action last evening (23) by applying for medical leave.
