Electricity Amendment Bill will be presented to Parliament in January next year: Minister

Refuting claims by opposition political parties in and out of Parliament that there is a sinister move to implement the Electricity Amendment Bill without giving the public an opportunity to raise objections, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera told Parliament that the proposed legislation will be presented to the House in January.

He said this in response to allegations by Opposition MPs, including Dayasiri Jayasekara who claimed that the Bill will be presented on December 12 and then will be implemented automatically as there will not be any time for the public to file petitions.

"We will present the Bill in January. Therefore, there will be time for anyone to file petitions. The committee appointed to prepare the Bill held a meeting to get the opinion of MPs. Only 12 MPs attended the meeting. Besides, discussions have been held with trade unions as well," Minister Wijesekera said.

So many things are going on against India but deliberately you are not reporting them. Two days ago in the Congress hearing in the USA , the American Senators called India not fit tobe called the largest democracy for plotting to kill Sikhs in America and Canada. Last week an Indian recruited by Indian intelligence to kill Sikhs in India has been indicted in a New York court. In few days time the head of FBI is coming to India with Lawyers and security experts. Indians are caught with their pants down. When all international papers are reporting these on a daily basis , you are keeping quiet. Is Daily Mirror working for India ?

Is this the bill with some words of an alien language? As @Pathirana says all responsible media have to be unbiased and report without any hidden local or foreign influences or agendas. Gazettes and Bills have become a fashion designing to show off as essentials for economic revival with some ready to reverse policy when people protest against it and same politricks score after reversal. This is going to happen during the remaining lease of the exective tenure which should be cut-short using peoples power.

Well this is a result of electricity not being priced at actual cost to recover expenses and breakeven all these years. Having got used to heavily subsidized energy (which the government and county could ill afford), when the proverbial hits the fan and their is no option but to do the right thing and recover costs through increased tariffs, the hitherto previously heavily subsidized consumers cry blue murder. The magnitude if the price increase largely reflects the extent of the previous subsidies.

The futile attempt to pass this heinous bill through parliament in a hurry, failed miserably. Even the Sinhala version of the gazette printed contained many mistakes, epitomizing the gross inefficiency of this sordid regime.

Many corrupt and shady deals are being carried out in the form of economic restructuring and privatisation. It's highly regrettable why IMF is turning a blind eye to the corruption and lack of good governance that these corrupt politicians in power are benefitting from using the IMF label for economic restructuring.
