Election expenses probe launched on MP Archchuna, eight other candidates in Jaffna

Jaffna police have initiated investigations into election expenses of nine candidates, including Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna, who contested the last general elections.

The investigations deal with the election expenses of parliamentarian Archuna Ramanathan and candidates Sasikala Raviraj, A. Umakaran Rasaiah, S. Mayuran, T. Krishnananth, N. Kawshalya and Kuruswami Suren.

However, police have recorded only the statement of candidate Sashikala Ravirajah and they are to submit the report to the Elections Commission after recording the statements of the others.

How can you say `the country is going in the wrong direction for `sure`? Has it been going in the right direction all this time? Secondly, MP Archchuna is not a Govt MP. He is in the opposition just like the eight other candidates who`s election expenses are being probed. Which means those mistakes have to corrected by the opposition. Come on, lets stay on the subject here and not get carried away by personal likes or dislikes of the radical changes that are happening.

This is a timely and commendable initiative by the Election Department. Unfortunately, none of the political candidates present a comprehensive election manifesto outlining their proposed work plans. Their underlying motive appears to be securing parliamentary seats for personal gain rather than genuine public service. Meanwhile, the people of the North continue to grapple with longstanding and pressing issues that have plagued them for decades. Yet, these candidates show no inclination to investigate or address these challenges meaningfully. Such neglectful and self-serving individuals must be held accountable for their actions.
