Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Education Ministry has confirmed that it is fully prepared to implement the new education reforms for Grade 6 from next year.
A progress review meeting on the implementation of education reforms was held at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday (26) under the chairmanship of Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, with the participation of Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa and senior officials.
Officials said the reforms are being introduced under five key areas, with five committees appointed to oversee the implementation process. A separate committee headed by the Education Minister has also been established to monitor the progress of these committees.
They said that the reforms introduced for Grade 1 in 2026 are being implemented successfully, while preparations are underway to print and distribute revised Grade 6 learning modules.
The first-term Grade 6 modules have already been printed, and arrangements have been made to distribute them along with the second-term modules.
The National Institute of Education and the National Education Commission are continuing to provide guidance for the successful implementation of the reforms, while the Educational Publications Department is responsible for preparing the learning materials.
Officials also said that the required equipment has been provided to all 6,500 secondary schools in the country. Development work has also commenced in 373 schools identified as requiring special improvements.
A further review meeting is scheduled to be held in three months to assess the progress of the reform programme.
