Easter Sunday attacks: Writ against Nilantha Jayawardhane fixed for support



Colombo, Oct 14 (Daily Mirror) - A writ petition filed seeking an order to conduct a credible investigation and take appropriate action against Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardane for his alleged omission and serious dereliction of duty that led to the Easter Sunday bombings in 2019 was fixed for support by the Court of Appeal.

A two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, comprising Justices Mayadunne Corea and Mahen Gopallawa, fixed the matter for support on March 24 next year.

The Centre for Society and Religion, its Chairman Fr. Rohan Silva and Surach Nilanga, a victim of the Easter Sunday bomb attacks filed this petition naming the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena and the Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioners are seeking a Writ of Mandamus, directing the IGP and the Attorney General to forthwith take steps to initiate appropriate action to facilitate the carrying out of the findings and recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
